Happy Holidays from the San Diego
Retrocommissioning Program!
The Program's financial
incentives and technical services are still available to
help commercial customers save energy and money through
retrocommissioning (RCx).
RCx typically reduces commercial
buildings' total energy costs by 5-20% through low-cost
operational improvements that payback within 2 years on
average. RCx also improves the performance of
buildings' systems, improves occupant comfort,
and reduces greenhouse gas
emissions.
If you haven't applied to participate
in the San Diego RCx Program yet, we urge you to
apply right away, as Program funding for new
projects is not guaranteed beyond the end of this
year.

Program Update
In the past few months, the San Diego
RCx Program has started a dozen new
projects. Overall, RCx projects in the
Program total over 4.3 million square feet of space
and are projected to save over 8 million kWh
annually. Two dozen buildings comprising an
additional 8 million square feet of building
space are in the pipeline to start new
projects.

Project Spotlight: 610 West
Ash
In September, Glenborough LLC's 610 West Ash office
building kicked off a customized, in-depth
retrocommissioning (RCx) investigation
conducted by Servidyne,
Inc. 610 West Ash is a nineteen
story, 177,000 square foot Class "A" multi-tenant office
building with a nine-level parking structure, located in
downtown San Diego.
The RCx investigation, provided by the Program at no cost to
Glenborough, is uncovering opportunities to save
energy and money. The investigation at 610 West Ash
is focused specifically on finding energy savings with
the building's heat pump system and cooling tower.
According to Carlos Santamaria, Director of
Engineering for Glenborough, "We have had a great
experience participating in the San Diego RCx
Program. The free retrocommissioning investigation,
free follow-up training for our building operators and
team of experienced staff has made the difference
for us. We are looking forward to
implementing the retrocommissioning measures that
are identified and achieving energy and cost
savings in the new
year." |

Tracking
Carbon Emissions with
ENERGY STAR®
The
U.S. EPA recently added a new feature to Portfolio Manager, an online
tool that helps buildings benchmark the energy
performance of office buildings, hotels, retail centers,
schools and other types of buildings across the country.
Portfolio
Manager now tracks carbon emissions from building energy
use by adding factors from the EPA's
Emissions & Generation Resource Integrated
Database (eGRID). The tracking
system helps businesses measure their progress in
reducing their buildings' emissions and compare their
buildings' carbon emissions to others in the region and
across the country.
Buildings
with projects in the San Diego RCx Program receive a
free Portfolio Manager ENERGY STAR benchmark,
which includes the new carbon emissions tracking
feature. | |
