Greetings from the San Diego Retrocommissioning Program! The Program's financial incentives and technical services are still available to help San Diego Gas and Electric (SDG&E) commercial customers save energy and money.

Retrocommissioning (RCx) helps building owners and managers improve the performance of their building's systems, achieve energy savings, and improve occupant comfort.  RCx typically reduces total energy costs by 5-20% through low-cost, quick-payback operational improvements.

Visit www.sandiegorcx.com to learn more about financial incentives and to fill out an application for your building.

Program Update
San Diego Skyline

Since the San Diego RCx Program began late last year, the Program has received dozens of applications.  Already, nine buildings with a total of 1.2 million square feet of building space are undergoing RCx.  This set of buildings is projected to save nearly 1.5 million kilowatt hours of energy, or 13% of the Program's energy savings goal.  Additional buildings totaling over 8 million square feet of space have submitted applications or have been screened to see if they qualify for the Program.

The Program is continuing to accept applications from SDG&E commercial customers that have more than 100,000 square feet of conditioned space. If you think your building may qualify, fill out an application or contact our Field Energy Analyst, Jordana Beebe, who can help answer your questions and assist you in getting started.  Financial incentives are available on first come, first served basis - apply today!

Project Spotlight: Doubletree Hotel
Doubletree Hotel San Diego

In April, the Doubletree Hotel San Diego, a 237,000 square foot, 11-story, 300-room Hilton Hotels Corporation property in Mission Valley, signed on to the San Diego RCx Program.  A customized, in-depth investigation of the hotel is being conducted by EMC Engineers.

The investigation is uncovering multiple RCx opportunities that will reduce the Doubletree hotel's environmental impact while also saving money.  Investigation efforts are focusing on finding energy savings with the building's chiller, central air handlers, and HVAC control systems.

The Program is providing the Doubletree Hotel with:

·         An in-depth, customized RCx investigation to identify energy savings opportunities

·         Documentation and training for building staff on implemented measures

According to Joseph Kruvi, Southern California Area Vice President and Managing Director for Hilton Hotels, "The San Diego Retrocommissioning Program offers a comprehensive incentive package and a great team of experienced engineering staff.   The application, screening and investigation process has been very efficient, and we are confident the Doubletree will achieve significant energy and cost savings.  We also value retrocommissioning's additional benefits, especially improved occupant comfort and environmental stewardship."

San Diego RCx Workshop

On August 22, 75 building owners, building engineers and property managers gathered at the
San Diego Energy Resource Center to attend SDG&E's first RCx workshop.  Larry Luskay, Senior Engineer with Portland Energy Conservation, Inc. gave a detailed presentation about how to find low-cost, energy savings opportunities in commercial buildings.  Workshop participants were given the opportunity to ask questions and share their ideas and experience.  See the workshop presentation slides.
